Ranaragini demands Anti-‘Love Jihad’ law in Goa, submits memorandum to Chief Minister

Panaji, Goa – A horrific social crisis in the form of ‘Love Jihad’ and forced religious conversions is currently affecting Hindu women across the country. Recognising this, eleven States, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Jharkhand, have already implemented laws against ‘Love Jihad’ and religious conversions. Against this backdrop, the Ranaragini Wing of the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti met Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to submit a memorandum demanding the immediate implementation of a similar law in Goa to protect women. The memorandum bears the signatures of over 7,000 Goan citizens.

The memorandum cites incidents related to ‘Love Jihad’ that have occurred in Goa, and the following demands have been put forward :

1. The perpetrators of Love Jihad who murdered Hindu girls including Sakshi, Anuradha and Shraddha should be immediately sentenced to death by hanging.

2. The Home Department should appoint an independent inquiry committee to investigate whether there is any conspiracy behind the disappearance of women and girls from Goa.

3. On the lines of the Uttar Pradesh Government, a special Police wing should be established to handle and investigate cases of Love Jihad.

4. A similar memorandum was also submitted to several MLAs, including Daji Salkar, Ulhas Tuenkar, Pravin Arlekar, Premendra Shet and Dr Deviya Rane.

Over the past few months, Ranaragini has been actively raising awareness across Goa by organising women’s rallies, and meeting public representatives, pro-Hindu organisations, social groups, and women’s self-help groups to advocate for the law against ‘Love Jihad’.
