71 unauthorised buildings in Kurla (Mumbai) removed

Strict action taken after complaints from citizens

Mumbai – Mumbai Municipal Corporation has removed a total of 71 unauthorised Buildings in the areas of New Mill Marg, Bail Bajar area, Vinoba Bhave Nagar, at Kurla (west) near the railway station.  The majority of these buildings belonged to Muslim hawkers.

On 16 January after a fight about parking of a two-wheeler on the road; some Muslims thrashed 3 Hindu youth. After this incident the local residents demanded that the police and administration remove the unauthorised buildings. After this demand the administration took the above action. In this demolishing action, unauthorised shops in the middle of the footpath and unauthorised extension of the shops were demolished. During this action there was a large police presence in the area. The local residents had complained about unauthorised construction in the area earlier; but no action was taken which caused dissatisfaction and anger among the residents.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Was the administration sleeping till these unauthorised buildings were built ? Action should be taken against the concerned officers.
  • Action should be taken suo moto against the encroachment by the Administration, not after complaints are given by the citizens.
  • Will the Administration wakeup only after the Hindus are beaten-up ? From this it can be understood that this is a dangerous time for the Hindus with the increase in the population of the religious fanatics
