Muslims assault Hindus in Kurla (Mumbai) for asking them to move a cart

Mumbai, 19 January – In Subhash Nagar, Kurla (West), a Hindu youth was assaulted by a group of Muslims after he asked them to move their cart that was obstructing the road. When other Hindus rushed to his rescue, they too were beaten. The Kurla Police have registered a case against six Muslims and arrested one of them.

On the evening of 18 January, Asim Singh was riding his two-wheeler on the road in front of the ‘Manasi’ building in Subhash Nagar, Kurla (West). A Muslim hawker had parked his cart on the road, causing inconvenience to pedestrians and motorists. When Asim Singh requested him to move the cart, the hawker became aggressive and assaulted him.

Asim Singh immediately informed his brother Akash over the phone. Akash and their father rushed to the spot. When Akash questioned the attackers about the assault, the Muslims turned on him as well and beat him up. Their father was also assaulted during the incident.

Administration’s indifference to illegal hawkers

Local residents have repeatedly complained to the administration about illegal hawkers operating in the area. Most of these unauthorised hawkers belong to the Muslim community. However, despite continuous complaints, the administration has failed to take effective action.
