Widowed Hindu woman gang-raped, tied to a tree and beaten

In the Kaliganj area of Jhenaidah District, a 44-year-old widowed Hindu woman was gang-raped. After the assault, the attackers tied her to a tree and beat her. Her hair was cut, she was assaulted, and the entire incident was recorded on a mobile phone. Police have arrested one accused identified as Hasan, while the search for the other accused is ongoing. Hasan is a resident of a nearby village.

Relatives locked in a room during the assault

According to Police and local residents, about two years ago the woman had purchased a house and land in the village. She had bought the land from the brother of the accused Shaheen. Since then, Shaheen had been continuously harassing her and demanding money. On the evening of January 3, two male relatives of the woman had come to visit her. At that time, Shaheen and Hasan forcibly entered the house, locked the relatives in one room, and took the woman to another room where they raped her. Afterward, the accused forced the woman and her relatives out of the house, tied them to a tree, and falsely accused them of obscene acts.

Threats to a Hindu District Commissioner

For the general elections scheduled on 12 February, the nomination of Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Barrister Salehi from the Kurigram-3 constituency was rejected by District Commissioner Annapurna Debnath. His nomination was rejected because he held citizenship of two countries. After the rejection, Salehi’s supporters staged protests in the District Commissioner’s office area. During the protest, they used abusive language, demanded Debnath’s resignation, and threatened her by saying, “You cannot stay here.” Some supporters also accused her of being associated with ISKCON and of working in the interests of India and the ruling party.

Editorial Perspectives

  • To change the situation in Bangladesh, it is necessary to establish a Hindu Rashtra in India at the earliest. Only rulers who govern in accordance with Hindu Dharma can take effective action to protect Hindus across the world.
  • History shows that wherever Muslims are in the majority, Hindus face annihilation. Therefore, before India itself becomes a minority, establishing a Hindu Rashtra for self-protection has become inevitable.
