Unfortunately, our neighbours are bad ! : External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) – Neighbours can be good or bad. Unfortunately, our neighbours are bad. If a country deliberately, consistently and without remorse chooses to continue terrorism, then we have the right to protect our people from terrorism, said External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar while speaking at an event at IIT Madras.

We will do whatever is necessary to protect ourselves

The External Affairs Minister said that many years ago, India had agreed to arrangements on water sharing; however, if a neighbouring country continues terrorist activities for decades, there is no meaning in being a good neighbour. “How we exercise our rights is for us to decide,” he said. Referring to the Indus Water Treaty framework, he stated that no one can tell India what it should or should not do. “We will do whatever is necessary to protect ourselves,” he asserted.

Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India

Dr Jaishankar also strongly objected to the harassment of a woman from Arunachal Pradesh by Chinese passport officials at Shanghai airport. He said that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India and will always remain so. India protested against the incident and made it clear that such actions would not change anything.
