An act hurting the sentiments of devotees around the world : India

In a statement, India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We have seen reports on the demolition of a statue of a Hindu religious Deity, built in recent times, and located in an area affected by the ongoing Thailand-Cambodia border dispute. Hindu and Buddhist Deities are deeply revered and worshipped by people across the region, as part of our shared civilizational heritage. Notwithstanding territorial claims, such disrespectful acts hurt the sentiments of followers around the world, and should not take place. We once again urge the two sides to return to dialogue and diplomacy, to resume peace and avoid any further loss of lives, and damage to property and heritage.”

Demolition for the management and security of the relevant area : Thailand

Responding to the Indian Government’s reaction, Thailand’s Thai-Cambodian Border Media Division said, “This action is not related to religion or belief. The demolition was carried out only for the purpose of management and security of the area after the Thai army regained control of the area. The statue was not recognized as a ‘religious site’, and its construction was recent. It was also carried out with the aim of removing sensitive symbols that could increase tension on the border. The statue was located in the disputed Chong An Ma area of the border area. Cambodia deliberately erected this statue on land that we claim. We respect all religions, including Hinduism; because we have historical and cultural ties with all of them.”

Cambodia accuses Thailand

Cambodia, however, has accused Thailand of demolishing a statue of Deity Vishnu on its border. Cambodian officials said the demolition took place 100 metres from the border.

Editorial Perspective

No country dares to insult foreign religions in this manner. It is only because Hindus are so tolerant that anyone can dare to mock the Hindu Deities. This is shameful for 100 crore Hindus.
