The case has been filed under sections 196 and 299 of ‘Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita’ by advocate Amita Sachdeva who has always been active in the matters related to the protection of Dharma.  These clauses are regarding issues related to creating disharmony in society and deliberately hurting religious sentiments. The final hearing was held on 16.12.2025 and a senior advocate Makarand Adkar represented advocate Amita Sachdeva. The Court has reserved its decision.

What is the case ?

On 06.12.2024, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) published the information about Walmart’s ‘Celestial Ganesh Blessings’ collection on the social media which was read by advocate Amita Sachdeva.

In this collection, images of Hindu Deities were printed on underclothes and slippers. It was inappropriate and insulting from the viewpoint of billions of Hindus.

After facing significant backlash on the social media, ‘Walmart’ removed the products from its website though it was not the first time that ‘Walmart’ did it. In 2018, rings were brought out with images of Hindu Deities resulting in a row and that time too, the company had to withdraw the products.

Police try to avoid filing a case

Advocate Amita Sachdeva informed

that this is the second time that Walmart has made similar mistake. Removing the product is not enough. Such companies will look at the Indian laws and Hindus’ religious sentiments with contempt if there are no legal consequences. Complaint was filed with the Cyber Branch on 06.12.2024 and on 20.12.2024 with the South Delhi Deputy Commissioner; but it was not registered; therefore, a petition has been filed in the Court.

Editorial Perspective

  • Congratulations to advocate Amita Sachdeva for taking action against denigration of Deities.  Every advocate needs to be active for the protection of Dharma.
  • The Central Government needs to take action against Walmart.
  • Had Walmart done something similar in case of other religions, their commercial complexes would have been burnt down. In comparison, Hindus not uniting and doing anything even in legal manner for their own Dharma is very shameful.
