State Sports Minister Manikrao Kokate Submits Resignation

Mumbai – State Cabinet Minister Manikrao Kokate has been sentenced to two years of rigorous punishment in a case of securing two flats in 1995 under the State’s EWS housing quota and Nashik District Court has issued a warrant against him. He is likely to be arrested soon. Kokate has submitted his resignation as the Sports Minister.

Chief Minister Fadanvis had recommended to the Governor to relieve him of his portfolio which has been accepted by the Governor. Presently, the Sports Department has been assigned to Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Kokate has challenged the session court’s decision in Mumbai High Court but the Court advised on 18.12.2025 that holding an immediate hearing in his case was not necessary. The resignation of Mr Kokate during the election period is a shock to NCP.

Appropriate decision from the viewpoint of the Government’s image – Pravin Darekar, BJP leader

BJP leader Pravin Darekar told a news channel in response to this matter that if the Government took such a decision after the Court’s verdict, it is appropriate for the image of the Government and Chief Minister. The Government will now take decision in phases. The Government should be congratulated for taking immediate note of the decision declared by the Court as expected by the people.

Nashik Police Commissioner checks medical and other legal matters

Manikrao Kokate is presently admitted to Leelavati Hospital in Mumbai for treatment. People are, therefore, wondering whether he will be arrested in the hospital. After issue of the warrant against Kokate by the First Class Court, the Police are under pressure to arrest him on the spot. Nashik Police Commissioner has asked for Kokate’s medical reports and started verification of various legal issues involved in the case. The decision regarding Kokate’s arrest will be taken only after checking all legal issues and considering his present medical state.

Vijay Kokate under search warrant

Manikrao Kokate is in hospital while his brother Vijay Kokate and a co-accused in the case is absconding. A warrant has also been issued against him. Nashik Police have deployed teams in search of Vijay Kokate.
