The words ‘Nazi Swastik’ removed from the new anti-Hate Bill

Ottawa (Canada) – An important decision has been taken in Canada to remove the confusion between Hindus’ holy ‘Swastika’ and tyrant Nazis’ ‘Hakenkreuz’. During the discussions held on the ‘C-9’ Bill related to incidents and symbols spreading hatred, the distinction between Hindus sacred ‘Swastika’ and Nazis’ imagery was explained while carrying out necessary changes in the Bill. Hindus have welcomed the decision. The Bill is yet to be approved but it is stated that the decision will help in guiding avoidance of cultural mistakes.
1.In the earlier draft of the ‘C-9’ Bill, there was a mention of ‘Nazi Swastika’. Hindus, Jains and Buddhists, however, protested and claimed that it was wrong and objectionable to compare ‘Swastika’ with the Nazi imagery i.e. ‘Hakenkreuz’, that was used for creating hatred.
2. More than 100 Hindu, Jain and Buddhists organisations were campaigning against it. On 10.12.2025, the standing committee of the Parliament agreed to remove the word ‘Swastika’ from C-9 Bill. The words ‘Nazi Hakenkreuz’ will now be mentioned in the Bill.
3. ‘Hindu Canadian Foundation’, ‘Canadian National Council of Hindus’, and various devout Hindu organisations from North America have welcomed this decision claiming it as a moral victory against ignorance toward Hindu culture.
