Two Muslim youths urinate in the sanctum of a temple in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh

  • Entered the temple wearing footwear

  • Both youths are sons of a Police officer

Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh) – A shocking incident occurred at the Bhuteshwar Mahadev Temple in Shivhari Dham, Bichhipur, Kanpur, where two Muslim youths urinated inside the sanctum sanctorum. Both youths are reportedly sons of a Police Sub-Inspector in the Uttar Pradesh Police. Police have taken the two into custody and registered a case against them. Priests broke down in tears after this act of denigration.

Used a two-wheeler to commit the crime

According to the registered complaint, the two arrived in broad daylight on a two-wheeler, entered the sanctum without removing their footwear, and urinated there. When those present tried to stop them, they allegedly pushed and manhandled the temple trust members and devotees.

Their Police officer father silently witnessed the act

While speaking to the media, the priest Shivkumar Dwivedi broke down in tears. He stated that the two youths climbed onto the temple dome, vandalised property, took photographs, and desecrated the sanctum. They insulted those who tried to stop them. From inside the temple, they phoned their father, who arrived shortly after. Even in his presence, the two hurled abuses and threatened devotees, while their father silently watched and did nothing to stop them. Priest Dwivedi further said, “The administration supports us, but we want real action. We have been humiliated. Even temple staff are frightened by their behaviour. A school also operates within the premises, so such behaviour must be stopped. Instead, pressure is being put on us to drop the complaint. Their father was present there too. Whom should we tell our pain?” (Editorial Perspective- This reflects their fanatic mindset. If Police themselves remain silent, how will Hindus get justice when Muslims commit atrocities against them ?)

Devout Hindu organisations stage protest

Temple trust member Shivkumar Dwivedi and others informed activists of Bajrang Dal and Hindu Jagaran Manch, after which activists reached the site and staged a protest. Later, Shubham Shaurya Agnihotri (Bajrang Dal District Coordinator) and Rakesh Awasthi (Hindu Jagaran Manch District Coordinator) submitted a memorandum to Assistant Commissioner of Police Krishnakant Yadav demanding strict action. They warned that if strong action is not taken, a large-scale protest will follow.

Independent investigation underway: Police

ACP Krishnakant Yadav stated that he personally visited the location. A case has been registered and both youths have been arrested. An independent investigation is currently in progress.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Just as invaders like Babar and Aurangzeb desecrated temples, their ideological descendants still continue such acts. Action must be taken following the example of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
  • Repeated incidents of temple desecration occur, yet no government has been able to stop them. No strict punishment has ever been given—showing that in a Hindu-majority nation, the sentiments of over 100 crore Hindus hold near-zero value. This is shameful for Hindus.
  • In an Islamic country, if anyone did such a thing to their holy places, perpetrators would be executed on the spot. In contrast, Hindus do not even protest strongly!
