Devotees in China seen touching donation boxes with their phones after offering donations; incident goes viral

Beijing, China – A peculiar practice has come to light in China that, after offering donations at temples via QR codes (used for online money transfers), devotees are seen touching the temple donation boxes with their mobile phones. A video of this act has been circulating on social media.

In recent times, temples across the world have begun accepting donations through QR codes. This practice has also become common in China. However, in Chinese temples, after scanning the QR code and making a donation, devotees gently touch the donation box with their mobile phones. Many are also seen waving incense sticks and camphor smoke over their phones. The devotees believe that by doing so, “the Deity accepts their donation and blesses them.”
