US to deny visas to immigrants with diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and similar illnesses

President of the United States, Donald Trump

Washington (USA) – Under the new guidelines announced by US President Donald Trump, foreign nationals seeking to immigrate to the United States may now be denied visas and green cards if they have pre-existing chronic illnesses such as diabetes or heart disease. The US Department of State has sent these guidelines to American embassies and consulates across the world.

The guidelines include a list of illnesses whose treatment could cost lakhs of rupees, such as cardiovascular diseases, respiratory illnesses, cancer, diabetes, metabolic disorders, neurological conditions, and mental illnesses. All such chronic diseases will now be evaluated as potential indicators of whether a person could become a future financial burden on the US government.

Advice to consider obesity

The guidelines specifically advise officials to pay special attention to conditions like obesity, as it can lead to asthma, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, and other medical issues that require expensive treatment.

It is being said that this policy will significantly reduce legal immigration for elderly applicants and those with common chronic illnesses, while making the system more favourable toward wealthy and healthy applicants.
