Merchant ship en route from India to South Africa attacked in Somalia

Dubai –  A Malta-flagged merchant ship en route from India to Durban port of South Africa was attacked near the coast of Somalia. Following the incident, the UK’s ‘Naval Trade Operations Centre’ has issued a warning to the vessels in the area to be on alert. The private security agency ‘Embrey’ confirmed the news of the attack.

Somali pirates suspected

According to ‘Embrey, the attack was probably carried out by Somali pirates. In recent times, these pirates have become active in this area. They are also said to have taken control of an Iranian boat a few days ago. There has been an increase in attacks by Somali pirates this year as compared to the previous year.
