BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal urges Union Home Minister Amit Shah to rename Delhi as Indraprastha

Devout Hindus believe the Union Government should consider this proposal and implement the change.

New Delhi – BJP MP from Chandni Chowk, Praveen Khandelwal, has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah demanding that Delhi be renamed Indraprastha. In his letter, Khandelwal also suggested renaming Old Delhi Railway Station as Indraprastha Junction and Delhi Airport as Indraprastha International Airport.

He further proposed installing statues of the Pandavas at key locations across the city, saying this would help the younger generation learn about their cultural heritage.

In his letter, Khandelwal wrote:

1. Delhi holds a special place in India’s ancient cultural legacy. It is not merely a metropolis but a centre embodying the soul of Indian culture, morality, and public welfare.

2. Delhi’s history is directly linked to the era of the Pandavas, and therefore its rich culture, heritage, and traditions are deeply associated with the name Indraprastha.

3. Historical records indicate that during the Mahabharata period, the Pandavas established their capital, Indraprastha, on the banks of the Yamuna River.

4. From the Maurya to the Gupta era, Indraprastha remained an important centre of trade, culture, and administration. During the 11th and 12th centuries, under Rajput rule, the Tomar dynasty referred to it as Dhillika, from which the name Delhi later evolved.
