Kerala becomes India’s first ‘extreme poverty-free’ state : Announces CM Pinarayi Vijayan

To eliminate extreme poverty, the Vijayan government launched the “Extreme Poverty Eradication Project” in 2021.

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) – Kerala has become the first Indian state to eradicate extreme poverty, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced during a session of the state assembly.

1. To eliminate extreme poverty, the Vijayan government launched the “Extreme Poverty Eradication Project” in 2021. Under this initiative, 64,006 families were identified as living in extreme poverty. According to the Chief Minister, these families have now been successfully lifted out of that condition.

2. Following the announcement, opposition legislators boycotted the assembly proceedings, calling the Chief Minister’s claim misleading. As the special session began, all opposition MLAs walked out of the House in protest.

3. Responding to the criticism, CM Vijayan said, “We speak only of what we can implement, and we have fulfilled what we promised. This is our clear answer to the opposition.”
