Pakistan offers Bangladesh use of Karachi port for trade

Pakistan attempts to capitalise on India’s import restrictions on Bangladeshi goods

Islamabad (Pakistan) – Amid rising tensions with India, Pakistan has offered Bangladesh the use of the Karachi port for trade purposes. The proposal allows Bangladesh to use Karachi port for the export of jute products and other goods. A few months ago, India imposed restrictions on the import of jute from Bangladesh, following which Pakistan extended this offer.

Pakistan’s move is seen not only as a trade-related gesture but also as part of a broader strategy to counter India’s regional influence. Through the Karachi port, Bangladesh could gain sea access to Gulf nations and Central Asia. However, several experts believe that although Pakistan has made a diplomatic move, such an arrangement may not be practically beneficial for Bangladesh.
