Washington D.C. (U.S.) — Tensions are rising as the United States may soon carry out a military strike on the island nation of Venezuela, located near the Pacific Ocean. The U.S. is reportedly considering an operation targeting drug hubs and trafficking routes within Venezuela. President Donald Trump stated that diplomatic talks with Venezuela remain an option to curb narcotics smuggling into America. U.S. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered the nation’s most advanced aircraft carrier, USS Gerald R. Ford, to move toward waters near Venezuela.

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced that 5,000 Russian-made Igla-S missiles have been deployed to counter possible U.S. aggression. He declared that these weapons are meant to respond to any imperialist threat and that the Venezuelan military stands prepared to defend every inch of the homeland.

In recent weeks, the U.S. has conducted attacks on Venezuelan ships involved in drug trafficking, resulting in the deaths of 43 people. On August 7th, the U.S. placed a $5 million bounty (approximately ₹420 crore) on President Maduro and seized assets worth over $700 million (₹5,880 crore), including two private jets. The Trump administration accuses Maduro of narcotics trafficking, alleging he collaborates with drug cartels to smuggle fentanyl-laced cocaine into the United States.
