
Kabul (Afghanistan) – India has put pressure on Pakistan by cancelling the ‘Indus Water Treaty’. After this, Afghanistan has also decided to divert water by building a dam on the river flowing to Pakistan. The announcement was made by the Taliban government’s deputy information minister, Mujahid Farahi.

1. Sheikh Hibatullah Akhundzada, the topmost leader of the Ministry of Water and Energy, has ordered the immediate construction of dams and embankments on the Kunar river and the work of impounding the water. This river flows towards Pakistan. This decision will have a major impact on water supply and agriculture in many villages and cities of Pakistan.
2. It has also been ordered that there is no need to wait for any foreign entity to construct dams and embankments. Therefore, local establishments in Afghanistan will start work immediately.
3. Water and Energy Minister Mullah Abdul Latif Mansour has said that Afghanistan has the right to make decisions about its water sources.
