Massive Illegal Sand Mining Along the Tungabhadra River !
While such large-scale mining was happening, what were the police and administration doing?
Illegal sand extraction is taking place on a massive scale along nearly 85 kilometers of the Tungabhadra River. Every day, 100 to 150 trucks filled with sand and gravel are being transported to Gadag, Ballari, Hubballi, Dharwad, Chitradurga, and even Bengaluru.
Several officials from the Department of Mines and Geology, in collusion with over 200 sand mafia members, are causing severe financial losses to the state’s revenue. According to Rayareddy’s letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, these corrupt officials have evaded more than ₹400 crore in government revenue.
