New Delhi – Türkiye and Azerbaijan, which had supported Pakistan during ‘Operation Sindoor’, are now facing the backlash of Indian travellers. Indian tourists have boycotted both nations, resulting in a sharp decline in visitor numbers — only 83,300 Indian tourists visited these countries in the first four months of this year, significantly fewer compared to last year.
1. From May onwards, Indian tourists began cancelling bookings en masse. Several major travel agencies halted flights and hotel services to Türkiye and Azerbaijan. Prominent travel platforms such as ‘MakeMyTrip’ and ‘EaseMyTrip’ also stopped offering packages to these destinations.
2. According to the ‘Azerbaijan Tourism Board’, there had been a 33% increase in Indian tourist arrivals between January and April; however, between May and August 2025, there was a drastic 56% drop. During this period, only about 44,000 Indians visited Azerbaijan — down from nearly one lakh the previous year.
3. Overall, Indian tourist arrivals in both countries have recorded a 22% annual decline in the first eight months of 2025.
Editorial PerspectiveThis decline must continue until it reaches 100%. Public awareness should be further strengthened. Moreover, it should also be examined whether those still visiting these countries are doing so deliberately due to religious bias ! |
