Pune – Over the past two years, as many as 224 senior citizens from Pimpri-Chinchwad and Pune city have filed complaints with the Haveli Tehsildar office, stating that their children are not taking care of them. The number of such complaints is reportedly increasing every year. Seeking financial security, a dignified life, and protection of their property, elderly parents have turned to the government for help.

According to the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007, enacted by the Union Government, senior citizens are legally entitled to claim maintenance from their children if they are neglected.

  • This situation highlights the urgent need for value education imparted through religious teachings.
