(GDP – Gross Domestic Product – Gross National Income)

Washington (USA) – The International Monetary Fund has projected that India’s GDP will grow for the financial year 2025-26. It will increase by 0.2 percentage points to 6.6 percent, the IMF said. The Indian economy was likely to be hit after US President Donald Trump imposed an additional 50 percent import duty on India; however, this IMF estimate makes it clear that nothing will happen.
India’s GDP grew faster than expected, i.e. 7.8 percent, in the first quarter of the financial year, i.e. from April to June. This pace remained high due to strong domestic trade. Due to this, even though the US imposed an additional 50 percent tax on India, India remained the fastest growing major economy in the world. This means that the US decision did not have any impact on the Indian economy. On the contrary, India’s growth rate has increased.
Growth rate to slow down in next fiscal year
The IMF further said that India’s growth rate is estimated to slow down by approximately 0.2 percentage points to 6.2 percent for the next fiscal year, i.e. 2026-27.
World Bank also has a positive forecast
Last week, the World Bank had increased India’s growth rate for the year 2025-26 from 6.3 percent to 6.5 percent. It also reduced the growth rate for the next financial year from 6.5 percent to 6.3 percent. After that, now the International Monetary Fund has also increased its forecast for the current year, which is good news for India.
