Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge demands ban on RSS shakhas in the State

Priyank Kharge

Bengaluru (Karnataka) – Priyank Kharge, Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge’s son and Congress Government’s minister in Karnataka, has written a letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah demanding a ban on RSS shakhas and other activities in public places. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has ordered an inquiry in this regard and accordingly the decision will be taken.

Minister Priyank Kharge alleged that the RSS shakhas are organized in Government and semi-Government schools, public grounds, temples, parks and places under the jurisdiction of the Archaeological Survey of India. In the shakhas, aggressive demonstrations of stick-fighting are carried out without the permission of the Police, which is having a negative impact on children and youth. (At several places, fanatic Muslims attack with swords and petrol bombs. Why doesn’t Kharge speak out then ? – Editor). When the forces that spread division and hatred become active in the society, the principles of unity, equality and integrity in the Constitution give us the right to stop them. For the sake of the children and youth of the State, and for the mental health of the society, all activities of the RSS in Government places should be banned. (Has Kharge ever dared to see what is taught in mosques and madarasas ? – Editor).

Mere publicity stunt : BJP

Karnataka BJP State president B.Y. Vijayendra said, “Who is Priyank Kharge to write such a letter to the Government ? Before talking about the RSS, he should understand its contribution to the nation. As a minister, Priyank Kharge should focus on the development of his own constituency Gulbarga instead of talking about the RSS. The RSS is currently celebrating its centenary and at such a time, Priyank Kharge is speaking against the RSS only for publicity.”

We condemn the attempt to ban RSS shakhas : Hindu Janajagruti Samiti

The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has issued a press release stating ‘it strongly condemns the letter sent by Priyank Kharge to the Chief Minister against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’. The RSS is an honourable organization, which remains in the front while providing relief work during natural disasters and crises, through its volunteers across the country. In 2024, the Union Government declared the RSS a ‘social organization’ and lifted the ban imposed earlier by the Congress Government and also issued an order that Government officials and employees should participate in the RSS events. In reality, the Congress party is itself engaged in spreading hatred and dividing the country. The Congress is dividing the society by conducting a caste survey in Karnataka, attending the programmes of separatist organizations like ‘Popular Front of India’ and ‘Social Democratic Party of India’ along with international terrorist Zakir Naik. Hence, the attempt to ban RSS shakhas is part of a conspiracy to ban Hindu Dharma. The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti strongly condemns this attempt.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Priyank Kharge is making a fool of himself by making such demands for the sake of cheap publicity. Clearly, Kharge is making this demand without knowing the work of the RSS or due to sheer hatred towards it.
  • The State’s Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar had earlier praised the RSS for working towards building the society. Why doesn’t Kharge talk about it ?
