After opposition to Hanuman Chalisa by Muslims, Hindu organisations in Varanasi warn the administration

Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) – Two days ago, a Muslim father and son were arrested for threatening the priest of a Hanuman temple here for reciting the Hanuman Chalisa. Following this incident, Hindu organisations in the city warned that “if Hanuman Chalisa is not allowed to be played over loudspeakers in Kashi’s temples, then the Azaan (call for prayer) will not be allowed in any mosque either. Even if cases are filed against us under the National Security Act (NSA) or if the police fire bullets in an encounter, we will not back down.”

Now, a group called the Hindu Sena has warned that “if loudspeakers on all mosques are not removed within a week, a large-scale agitation will be launched.”
Sudhir Singh, president of the Hanuman Sena, warned the administration on 7 October, saying, “If our demands are not met, large speakers will be installed on every house, and the Hanuman Chalisa will be recited throughout the day. Even if this causes noise pollution or disturbs public order, the entire responsibility will rest with the administration.”
At present, the administration has not issued any official statement regarding the matter.
