Trichy (Tamil Nadu) – On September 30th, a video was posted on the Facebook page of the organization Aintham Tamilar Sangam (Fifth Tamil Sangam), wherein a few people were seen burning the statue of Deity Shriram after garlanding it with slippers. They also hailed Ravan by raising slogans in Tamil. A picture was also posted showing the 10-headed Ravan playing the Veena. The Police have registered a case and arrested 36-year-old Adaikalaraj. A search is on for the other accused. The Police have warned of strict action against such people.

R. Gunasekara of the Hindu Munnani (Hindu Front), while filing a complaint with the Police, said that such actions are spreading unrest in the society.

BJP leader S.G. Surya said this is a serious example of anti-Hindu mentality.

Editorial Perspectives

  • What is happening in Pakistan and Bangladesh is happening in Tamil Nadu and that too by Hindus themselves. This is shameful for Hindus.
  • Would anyone dare to insult the places of worship of other religions in such a manner ? While attempts are being made to disrupt the country’s environment over the alleged insult of ‘I Love Muhammad’, Hindus are not opposing the insult to Hindu Deities even through legitimate means.
