Thane, September 7 – Shri Ganesh idols immersed by a Municipal Corporation in artificial ponds and tanks were later removed and buried in a large pit in a field. (Instead of harming Dharma and committing a sin, the administration should force people to bring small idols of Shri Ganesh made of natural clay and colours. The immersion of these idols should be allowed in flowing water bodies according to religious scriptures, thereby benefitting citizens. – Editor)

Citing the sly reason that the immersion of Ganesh idols in natural water sources should not cause pollution, the Municipal Corporation constructed a large number of artificial ponds in the city. To prevent immersion in the natural ponds were barricaded with bamboos. Due to this, citizens immersed Shri Ganesh idols in the artificial ponds.

To allow the 11th day idols to be immersed in the artificial ponds, the idols immersed until the 7th day were first removed. The idols were loaded into a contractor’s private truck. Workers even sat on the pile of the idols.

The idols kept in the truck were covered with tarpaulin. After 12 o’clock in the night, the idols were taken to large pits where they were thrown.

To prevent anyone from knowing that the idols were being buried in the pits, JCBs were used to cover the idols with mud. Citizens have expressed their anger about the incident.

Editorial Perspectives

  • The administration is not even aware of how big a sin it is to bury the idols of Shri Ganesh, which had been worshipped by Hindus with devotion for 10 days, into pits ! This act is akin to attracting the wrath of Shri Ganesh.
  • Those who commit such an irreligious act should be punished with life imprisonment.
