Bengaluru (Karnataka) – Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah recently announced that Banu Mushtaq, an anti-Hindu writer and this year’s winner of Booker Prize, will inaugurate the world-known Mysuru Dasara Festival. Pro-Hindu leaders across the State are, therefore, opposing this decision.

I respect Banu Mushtaq’s literature; but Dasara is not a symbol of secularism. Dasara is 100% a religious ceremony. Dasara starts with the ‘puja’ of Goddess Chamundeshwari. Banu Mushtaq should tell us if she has faith in Goddess Chamundeshwari. Why is the CM inviting someone who opposes religious beliefs, asked Simha furiously.

Simha stated further that Islam hates idol-worshipping and believes only in one God and one holy scripture. Is Banu Mushtaq firm on this belief or does she now feel that all paths go to the same liberation.

In the ‘Jana Sahitya Sammelan’ held in 2023, Banu Mushtaq had exhibited her Hindu-hatred when she said, “You people have made Kannada language ‘Kannada Bhuvaneshwari’. Bhuvaneshwari is seated on a throne with ‘haldi-kumkum’ applied on her forehead and there are saffron and yellow flags. Where will I stand ? What should I see ? Where will I take part ? The State home minister G Parameshwara reacting to devout Hindus’ opposition stated that Dasara is a regional festival. It is not limited to one caste or religion. Is it possible to exclude one religion and celebrate Dasara ? Didn’t Mirza Ismail celebrate Dasara as a ‘Diwan’  and so did Nissar Ahmad ? Do not raise objections to this matter. Is it written in the Constitution that Banu Mushtaq should be invited ? Hindus should keep a note of such ministers and show them their place at the time of election.

Congress minister Santosh Lad opposed the opposition to inviting Banu Mushtaq. He asked whether it was written in the Constitution that Banu Mushtaq should not be invited for the inauguration of Dasara festival ? BJP is opposing everything based on religious angle.
