Mumbai – There is a critical need for national regulations to halt the unregulated promotion of ‘real money gaming platforms.’ Deceptive and unethical advertisements on these platforms have resulted in significant financial losses, addiction, and, unfortunately, fatal incidents. Surajya Abhiyan has urged the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Consumer Affairs to act swiftly and introduce regulations for ‘Real Money Gaming Platforms.
In a letter written to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Consumer Affairs, ‘Surajya Abhiyan’ has expressed serious concern about the growing problems related to online gambling.Surajya Abhiyan has applauded the Ministry of Home Affairs for setting up a committee of officials, legal professionals, and industry representatives to discuss and determine the way forward on this matter.
Other key highlights from Surajya Abhiyan’s letter –
1. Guidelines on Licensing for ‘Online Gaming Platforms’ are required.
2. Establish strict rules on advertisements and ban misleading advertisements.
3. A grievance redressal mechanism should be put in place to support individuals affected by gambling addiction, financial losses, and fraud.
4. The Public Gambling Act, Consumer Protection Act, and Information Technology Act should be revisited and revised to address the challenges posed by online gambling, with violators facing stringent penalties.
5. A nationwide campaign should be launched to raise awareness about the dangers of online gambling. Under this, the public should be made aware of the legal and financial dangers of gambling.
