Religious fanatic Muslims attack a Hindu procession in Hazaribagh (Jharkhand)

Attack near Jama Masjid over objection to songs played during the procession

Hazaribagh (Jharkhand) – A violent incident of vandalism occurred when religious fanatic Muslims attacked the ‘Mangla’ procession, taken out ahead of Ramnavami, near the Jama Masjid. To bring the situation under control, the Police used tear gas shells, conducted lathi charges, and even fired shots in the air. Heavy Police deployment has been made in the area. In Hazaribagh, a procession is taken out every Tuesday after Holi until Ramnavami, known as the ‘Mangla’ procession.

  1. During the Mangla procession, participants from the Akhadawere played the drums while marching, and songs were played. When the procession reached the Jama Masjid, Muslims objected to the songs and started a confrontation. This escalated into stone-pelting by the Muslims, to which the Hindus retaliated.
  2. The situation worsened to such an extent that even after Police intervention, the Muslim attackers refused to calm down. When the situation became uncontrollable, the Police had to resort to firing shots in the air.
  3. According to the Hindus, their procession was peaceful, but religious fanatics deliberately created unrest.
  4. Hazaribagh Deputy Commissioner, Nancy Sahay, stated that the situation is now under control. She confirmed that the violence occurred in protest against the songs played during the procession.
  5. The Police have begun identifying the culprits using CCTV footage and drone surveillance.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Repeated attacks near mosques during Hindu religious processions highlight the need for locking mosques and imposing curfews in such areas before these events.
  • Hindus should now demand bulldozer action on such mosques.
  • It is equally true that the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-led Government in Jharkhand is unlikely to take action against religious fanatic Muslims.
