Publication of the Hindu Calendar in Kurla (Mumbai) by the ‘Hindu Navvarsh Swagat Yatra Committee, Kurla (West)’

Mumbai, March 23rd(News) – God determines how every object and creature should behave, where it should live, and that becomes their natural dharma. Similarly, the dharma of man is to attain God and achieve salvation through spiritual practice, said Bharatacharya Pujya Prof. S.G. Shevde at the ‘Hindu Dindarshika Prakashan Ceremony’ held in Kurla.
For the first time this year, the Hindu Navvarsh Swagat Yatra Samiti, Kurla (West), has prepared a calendar based on the Hindu months to help Hindus stay informed about the months, dates, and festivals of the Hindu year. On March 23rd , the grand release ceremony of the calendar, titled ‘Utsav Hindutvacha, Utsav Kurlyacha’ (Festival of Hindutva, Festival of Kurla), was held at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Kridangan in Kurla (West). Bharatacharya Pujya Prof. S.G. Shevde graced the event with his presence.
Speaking about the Hindu calendar, he said:
1. The Christian calendar is only useful for chronology, while the Hindu Panchang is designed as a true calendar. In the Christian calendar, to fit 365 days into 12 months, some months have been made 30 days long and others 31 days long, without any scientific basis.
2. In contrast, the Hindu month generally consists of 30 days, with each day having its own personality and significance. A calendar aligned with the Hindu Panchang is a source of pride for Hindus.

The event began with the lighting of the lamp. Bharatacharya Pujya Prof. S.G. Shevde lit the lamp with a kaypanji. On this occasion, the Sanghchalak of Sarveshwarnagar, Mr. Prabhakar Paranjpe, was present on the stage. The donors who provided advertisements and financial support for the calendar were felicitated by dignitaries with shawls and mementos. The Gorakhnath Mahila Govinda Team, which has earned fame across the country and is the first women’s Govinda team in the country, was also honoured on this occasion. An exhibition and sales center for books on the stories, biographies, and heroic tales of national heroes was set up at the venue of the release ceremony. A grand rangoli featuring the distinctive names of the Hindu months was drawn near the stage. Since the Hindu calendar has been certified for the first time this year, the organizers wished to seek the blessings of senior and knowledgeable saints of the Hindu religion for the release ceremony. For this purpose, they visited Bharatacharya Pujya Prof. S.G. Shevde, who is currently residing at the Ramnathi Ashram of the Sanatan Sanstha in Goa, and invited him to the event. The program began with a session of songs based on the nation and religion. It started with the state anthem ‘Jai Jai Maharashtra Majha’ and concluded with the full national song ‘Vande Mataram.’
“The concept of the Hindu calendar was introduced to raise awareness among the new generation!” – Kiran Damle, Executive Director, Hindu Navvarsh Swagat Yatra Committee, Kurla (West)
The festivals that occur every year shift back and forth like those in the Christian calendar. This is not the fault of our festivals, but rather because we have aligned them with the wrong calendar. As a result, the current generation is not even familiar with the names of Hindu months. To ensure that the next generation knows our Hindu months, dates, and the Hindu month in which each festival falls, the concept of a Hindu calendar has been implemented for the first time. This calendar should be distributed to as many homes as possible on the occasion of the Hindu New Year, appealed Shri Kiran Damle, the acting president of the Hindu Navvarsh Swagat Yatra Samiti, Kurla (West). He also urged everyone to participate in the Navvarsh Swagat Yatra on the occasion of Gudhipadwa.
