Fire Engulfs ‘Lav-Kush Ashram’ at Kumbha Mela

Prayagraj, February 15 – A massive fire broke out at the ‘Lav-Kush Ashram’ located in Ayodhya Dham, Mori Marg, Sector 19 of the Kumbha Mela, reducing the entire camp to ashes. The fire erupted at 5:45 PM on February 15, reportedly due to a short circuit, as informed by ashram representatives to Sanatan Prabhat.

  • The fire brigade arrived within 15 minutes and successfully brought the fire under control. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
  • The ashram was in the process of packing up as preparations were underway to vacate the Kumbha Mela premises. During this time, electricians were dismantling the power lines, leading to a short circuit that ignited the fire. The fire spread rapidly due to the presence of dry grass tents, with flames reaching up to 150 feet high, almost touching the railway bridge above the ashram.
  • The Kumbha Mela area is located beneath three bridges—two railway bridges used by Indian Railways and Uttar Pradesh’s local rail network, and the Shastri Bridge for road traffic. Several camps are set up under these bridges.
  • The ‘Lav-Kush Ashram’ was situated beneath the Indian Railways bridge. Fortunately, no train was passing at the time of the fire, otherwise, the flames could have endangered both the train and its passengers.

Crowd Gathers to Shoot Videos Instead of Helping

As the camp caught fire, bystanders rushed to capture photos and videos, causing unnecessary congestion. Police had to spend time dispersing the crowd instead of assisting in fire control. Despite warnings, many people continued recording the incident. (A reflection of society’s lack of awareness! – Editor)
