Lakhs of Kalpavasis take the holy dip on Maghi Purnima

(During Kumbha Mela, devotees observe a month-long vow of ritual bathing at Sangam, and such devotees are known as ‘Kalpavasis’.)

Massive gathering of devotees at Triveni Sangam for the holy dip

Prayagraj, 12.2.2025 – The month-long Kalpavasa vow of lakhs of Kalpavasis concluded on Maghi Purnima at Kumbha Mela. Hence, from early morning, these devout Kalpavasis gathered at Triveni Sangam and Ganga Ghats, offering ritualistic worship and taking the holy dip with utmost devotion.

The Maghi Purnima tithi began on 11th February at 7 PM, and therefore, the sacred bathing started from that time itself. Devotees continued bathing throughout the night, and as a result, by morning, the crowd had become more manageable.

Since the Amrit Snan was already completed, there were no Akhada representatives or sadhus present for the holy dip. Hence, the Police allowed common devotees to proceed with their bathing at Triveni Sangam. A large number of women, elderly devotees, and children were among those taking the sacred bath.

Traffic restrictions helped manage the crowd at Sangam

To manage the Purna Snan crowd, the administration enforced a vehicle ban in Kumbha Kshetra from 11th February at 8 PM. Only essential vehicles were permitted entry into the Kumbha area, helping the Police efficiently control the crowd.
