
Kolkata (Bengal) – A bill to penalise those spitting in public after consuming tobacco or pan masala will be introduced in the upcoming budget session of the Legislative Assembly. A decision in this regard was taken in a cabinet meeting. Although the exact amount of punishment has not been decided yet, a uniform fine of Rs 1,000 is likely to be imposed for these offence, sources said.
Bengal has had a law to prevent spitting in public in Bengal since 2003. According to it, a maximum fine of Rs 200 is imposed for spitting in public.
