Mumbai – The Maharashtra Temple Federation has welcomed and fully supported the decision of the Shri Siddhivinayak Temple administration to implement a dress code. A temple is a sacred religious place and also the center of our culture and traditions. Therefore, it is essential to maintain a proper dress code within the temple premises. This decision by the temple administration will help maintain discipline and enhance the sanctity of the temple. The federation’s national organizer, Mr Sunil Ghanwat, has urged all other government-controlled temples to adopt a similar dress code.
The statement released by the Temple Federation further states:

1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with his security personnel, follows the prescribed dress code while visiting Guruvayur Temple and Gurudwaras. When the nation’s highest leader sets such an example, devotees should have no difficulty in following the dress code set by temple administrations.
2. Dress codes are followed in ‘temples of education’ (schools), ‘temples of justice’ (courts), and ‘temples of democracy’ (legislative assemblies). Why, then, is there an objection only to dress codes in temples?

3. The temple dress code applies to everyone, not just women. Hence, claiming that it is an injustice against women is nothing but false propaganda.
4. Many prominent temples, including Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, Shri Kashi Vishweshwar Temple, and Shri TirupatiBalaji Temple, have already implemented a dress code for devotees. Not only that, but specific dress codes are also mandatory in churches, mosques, gurudwaras, police stations, hospitals, and government offices. However, it is unfortunate that objections are raised only against Hindu temple regulations.

5. The temple administration’s appeal for devotees to wear appropriate attire is justified. A temple is a place of faith, and every visitor should enter with devotion and reverence. Hence, the dress code is meant to honour the sanctity of the temple and is not a restriction on personal freedom.
