Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement on Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar sparks controversy
New Delhi – Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks about Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar during his speech in the Rajya Sabha on 17 December have drawn sharp criticism from opposition parties, both inside and outside Parliament. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself responded to the criticism.
PM Modi said, “The citizens of India have witnessed time and again how the Congress has made every possible devious attempt to erase Dr Ambedkar’s legacy and insult Scheduled Castes and Tribes.” Amit Shah had earlier remarked, “Taking Dr Ambedkar’s name repeatedly has now become a ‘fashion’ these days.”

- PM Modi said, “The facts presented by Amit Shah have unsettled the Congress, which is why they have resorted to this drama. However, people are fully aware of the truth.”
