Anwaruzzaman Chaudhury’s statement regarding filing a case of Bangladesh violence in the International Court
Dhaka (Bangladesh) – After the violence in August, the Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had to flee the country. During this violence the Awami League workers and Hindus were attacked. In this case a petition has been filed in the International Court. The senior leader of Awami League and the former Mayor of Sylhet Anwaruzzaman Chaudhury has said, “we have filed a case regarding the current situation of Bangladesh, with the hope to get justice.”
The 800 pages of this petition include detailed account of the incidents that took place. According to sources the details include the names of the Chief Adviser of current Interim Government, Prof. Mohamed Yunus, 61 members of his cabinet and student leaders. 15,000 more such complaints are being prepared to be presented in the Court.
Anwaruzzaman said, “I am a victim myself. My house was burnt. Even though I am an elected Mayor, I was removed forcibly. Thousands of other Bangladesh leaders have been attacked. The entire case is about violence and killings against Hindus, other minorities, Awami League, supporters of opposition parties and the Police. The purpose of this petition is to call attention to the violence in Bangladesh and violation of human rights.
Due to violence in Bangladesh the Administration and Judiciary are shattered. This is the reason that in the list of victims, the Mayor of Awami League has included names of people from the police and politics along with the minorities, and the case has been taken to international platform. Due to this, the radical government of Mohamed Yunus has got caught into difficult situation ahead of the elections there.
