Actress Pooja Bhatt objects to people singing songs on Deity Shriram in metro

Actress Pooja Bhatt

Mumbai – A video of passengers traveling in the Mumbai Metro during the Navaratri Festival was circulated on social media, wherein, the passengers were seen singing garba songs including ‘Bharat Ka Bacha Bacha Jai Jai Shriram Bolega’. Actress Pooja Bhatt posted this video on ‘X’ and wrote, “How is this permissible in a public space ? (It) doesn’t matter if it is Hindutva pop, Christmas carols, Bollywood blockbusters or anything in between. Public spaces cannot be misused in this manner. How and why are the authorities permitting this ? If we can’t follow basic rules there is no hope for law and order to prevail in the real sense. Illegal hoardings of all political parties that desecrate the city (or) the metro being turned into a party zone, firecrackers being lit in the middle of the street, used as cover by assailants.”

Citizens’ response

Responding to Pooja Bhatt’s post, one user wrote, “I thought your friend Elvish Yadav from ‘Bigg Boss’ (a reality show) has enlightened you on how the system works in a Hindutva country.” Another said, ‘Travel (in the metro) first, then you too will join these people.’

Editorial Perspectives

  • Note that actress Pooja Bhatt who criticized singing songs on Deity Shriram in the metro, does not utter a word about those performing namaz in Mumbai local trains.
  • When ‘Bharat Tere Tukde Honge’ slogans were raised in colleges or public places, where was Ms Bhatt hiding ? Why did she not oppose then ? Did she not realise it was a misuse of public place then ?
  • Why didn’t actress Pooja Bhatt feel the need for permission in 2021, when her web series ‘Bombay Begums’ openly depicted child sex ? Hindus must question Bhatt who talks of following the basic rules; but behaves arbitrarily herself.
