Newly elected President of Sri Lanka, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, states

Colombo (Sri Lanka) – “Sri Lanka does not want to get involved in any global political battle. We do not want to participate in any competition or support any country fighting for supremacy. We would not become a ‘sandwich’ between India and China. Both countries are our good friends. We hope our partnerships would remain positive in the future,” stated newly elected President of Sri Lanka Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in an interview with the magazine Monocle.

Dissanayake added, “We shall maintain good relations with the European Union, Middle East and Africa. Sri Lanka’s foreign policy would be impartial. We have a debt of over Rs 28 lakh crore. Our priority is to get the country out of the financial crisis.”
