Stone pelting by religious fanatics at the Shri Ganesh procession

Ratlam (Madhya Pradesh) – An incident of stone pelting at the Shri Ganesh procession by the religious fanatics  took place in Mochipura area. The agitated Hindus surrounded the Police Station and staged a road-block. They demanded strict action against the guilty. The mob went to the area from where these anti-socials had come and vandalised their vehicles. Police fired tear gas shells to control the mob.

1. In the Ankla area , Mochipura, the Idol of Shri Ganesh was being taken in a tractor trolley, in a procession. Around 9.30 p.m. there was attack on the procession with stones. Reportedly a few youngsters got injured.

2. After the Shri Ganesh Idol was taken to the installation spot, the angry mob went to the Police station where they raised slogans  demanding immediate  strict action against the guilty and held a roadblock.

3. After this, several leaders along with Rajesh Katariya, leader of Hindu Jagran Manch, and Nirmal Katariya, BJP leader arrived at the spot. The Police officers came to the spot and spoke to the protesters to pacify them.

4. The Police registered a case against the unknown individuals in the stone pelting incident. However, the Hindu organisation activists demanded arrest of the accused. A few activists marched towards the Muslim area from the Police station. The Police chased them but before they could reach the spot the mob had already vandalised several vehicles. Tear gas shells were fired by the Police to disperse the mob.

Stone pelting at the Hindus’ religious processions has been happening year after year across India.  Action at war footing must be taken by the government to control the religious fanatics.
