Meerut (Uttar Pradesh) – Tension arose here when Muslims pelted stones and beat up Hindus near a mosque during a procession conducted to mark the birth anniversary of Veer Rani Avantibai Lodhi. The incident happened due to a dispute over Muslims demanding to stop the ‘DJ’ being played during the procession as it was disturbing their namaz.
1. The procession started from Durjan Singh Lodhi Temple in Shivshaktinagar. When the procession reached the Hauz Wali Masjid in Khairnagar at around 10 p.m., the Muslims demanded that the DJ be stopped, saying that the DJ was disturbing the namaz.
2. They also alleged that the speaker in the procession fell on a Muslim boy. They then pelted stones at the procession. After this, the other group also threw stones. The Police brought the situation under control.
3. Praveen Lodhi, a member of the organising committee of the procession, said that the speaker included in this procession had not fallen. The concerned child was hurt by something else.
4. The BJP has demanded that action be taken against those who attacked the procession under the National Security Act. The procession is being held here since 2006.
Editorial PerspectiveHindu processions are frequently attacked near mosques and no Government stops these repeated attacks. This is shameful for the Hindus who vote these Governments to power. |
