Dhaka (Bangladesh) – “Attacking the minorities is a heinous crime. It is the duty of the youth of Bangladesh to protect the people from Hindu, Christian, and Buddhist communities living in the country. Students have saved this country; can they not protect minorities as well ? Minorities are also citizens of this country, and we must live together. Bangladesh is now in the hands of the youth,” appealed Muhammad Yunus, Head of Bangladesh’s interim Government, while addressing students at an event at Begum Rokeya University.
Attacks on minorities are heinous crimes, and it is the duty of the youth to protect them! – An appeal by Muhammad Yunus, the head of the interim government of Bangladesh!

Massive protests by millions of Hindus in Chittagong
So far, there have been 205 incidents of attacks on Hindus in 52 Districts of Bangladesh. In response to this violence, protests are being organised across various cities in Bangladesh by Hindus and Awami League activists. On 10thAugust, millions of people participated in a protest in Chittagong, condemning the attacks on their homes, shops, and temples. Videos of these protests have gone viral. During the demonstrations, the protesters chanted
slogans such as ‘Protect the Hindus’, ‘We want justice’, ‘The country belongs to all its citizens’. They also questioned why Hindu homes and temples are being looted.
Demand for a separate ministry for Hindus
The protesting Hindus have demanded that necessary steps be taken to stop the attacks on them. They have also called for setting up a separate ministry to protect the interests of minorities. The protesters demanded 10% reserved seats in the Bangladesh Parliament.
Attack on military vehicle : 5 soldiers injured
On 10thAugust, during the ongoing protests in Gopalganj, the military attempted to disperse the demonstrators with baton charge. In response, the protesters attacked a military vehicle and set it on fire. Five soldiers and ten civilians were injured in this incident. During the chaos, two journalists were also assaulted. The protesters even snatched weapons from the soldiers.
Protests outside the British Parliament
A large number of people gathered outside the British Parliament to protest against the attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh. They chanted slogans like ‘Hindu Lives Matter’. Many people, including members of human rights organisations, participated in this protest. The demonstrators also demanded compensation for those affected by the violence and called for the reconstruction of damaged temples.
Ban former ministers of Sheikh Hasina : Demand by US Congress members
Some US Congress members have called for sanctions against Bangladeshi officials who served under Sheikh Hasina. Democratic Senator Van Hollen has demanded sanctions against Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, who served as the Home Minister in Hasina’s Government, and Obaidul Quader, the General Secretary. He even wrote a letter to the Secretary of State Antony Blinken regarding this. (This clearly shows that the US is behind overthrowing the Bangladeshi Government – Editor).
Editorial Perspective
By appealing to the youth, Muhammad Yunus is merely pretending to support Hindus. Instead of making such appeals, Yunus should focus on arresting and prosecuting those who attack Hindus. Strict measures should be taken to protect Hindus, and the affected Hindus should be compensated. |
