1,682 people have been arrested under the anti-conversion law in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) As many as 1,682 people have been arrested so far under the Anti-Conversion Act in Uttar Pradesh. As on 31st July, 835 cases have been registered under the Act. Director General of Police Prashant Kumar said that 2,708 people have been identified so far under the Act, which came into force in 2020. Absconding are being traced.

Prashant Kumar said

In 98% of the cases, chargesheets have been filed in 818 cases, while 17 cases are still pending. Those who compel others to convert by luring, intimidation or by any other means will not be spared.
124 people have been released after they were found to have no role in the conversion of others. Another 70 individuals have surrendered in the court.

Editorial Perspective

Despite acting against those involved by enacting an anti-conversion law to prevent Love Jihad, the incidents of Love Jihad keep happening in Uttar Pradesh. Therefore, such people should be punished with capital punishment and not with life imprisonment.
