Demand by Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association
Dhaka (Bangladesh) – M. Mahbub Uddin, President of the Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association, has urged India to arrest the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her sister, Sheikh Rehana, and send them back to Bangladesh. Several supporters of opposition leader Khaleda Zia were also present at this time. Hindus targeted – Jamaat-e-Islami’s admission
Bangladesh’s Jamaat-e-Islami party has admitted that Hindus were targeted in Bangladesh following Sheikh Hasina’s resignation. They also acknowledged that Hindu temples were attacked.
Several Ministers from the Hasina Government flee Bangladesh
According to a report by the Bangladeshi newspaper ‘Daily Star,’ former Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury and Cooperative Minister Mohammad Tajul Islam have left the country by plane. Additionally, former Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, Sports Minister Nazmul Hassan Papon, and Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh have also fled the country. Meanwhile, former Foreign Minister of Bangladesh and Awami League leader Hasan Mahmud was detained at Dhaka’s international airport while attempting to leave the country.
We were forced to open fire on protesters – Bangladesh Police Association
The Bangladesh Police Service Association has alleged, “We were forced by officials to open fire on protesters even though we were not willing.” The association has also called for a nationwide strike. They stated, “The parliament makes laws, and we only enforce them. We have to follow orders from senior officials and politicians, whether legal or illegal. On 5th August, more than 450 Police stations across the country were attacked. Many Police officers were killed during protests that erupted after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation.” A Police officer told ‘Dhaka Tribune’ that at least 50 Police officers were killed. Except in Dhaka, most of the Police stations in the country are now unmanned.
Bangladesh suffered a loss of Rs 54,000 crore
Ongoing violence in Bangladesh has resulted in a loss of Rs 54,000 crore over the past 15 days. The textile industry has been hit the hardest, with losses amounting to Rs 14,300 crore.
Awami League leader’s hotel set on fire : 24 dead
A luxury hotel owned by Awami League leader Shahin Chakladar in Jessore, Bangladesh, was set on fire by rioters, resulting in the deaths of 24 people, including an individual from Indonesia.
29 Awami League leaders and their relatives murdered
At least 29 leaders of the Awami League and its allied parties, along with their family members, have been found dead. Among them were actor Shanto Khan and his father, Salim Khan, who was associated with the Awami League. Rioters have vandalised and looted the homes and commercial buildings of many Awami League leaders and activists. The three-story house of former municipal councillor Mohammad Shah Alam in Ashoktala was also set on fire, resulting in the deaths of six people. Four people died in a fire set by an angry mob at the house of Shafiqul Islam Shimul, MP for the ‘Natore-2’ constituency. The bodies were found in various rooms, on the balcony, and the roof of his home named ‘Jannati Palace’. The five-story building of his younger brother and the old house of the MP were also set on fire.
Famous Hindu singer Rahul Anand’s 140-year-old house burned down
Rioters torched the 140-year-old house of famous Hindu singer Rahul Anand in Dhaka, Bangladesh, after vandalising items inside the house. During the attack, Rahul Anand and his family were at home but fortunately managed to escape the rioters. It is reported that he has now taken refuge at an undisclosed location in Bangladesh. Rahul Anand had preserved more than 3,000 musical instruments in this house, which were also damaged. Last year, French President Emmanuel Macron visited Rahul Anand’s house during his visit to Bangladesh.
190 employees of the Indian Embassy return
A total of 190 employees of the Indian Embassy have returned from Bangladesh. An Air India plane was sent to bring them back. About 20 to 30 employees remain in Dhaka, and they are expected to be brought back to India soon.
Nepal increases vigilance
Nepali Police stated that, given the situation in Bangladesh, the Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed security agencies to maintain high alert along the international borders to prevent unauthorised entry.
China keeping an eye on the situation in Bangladesh
China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it is closely monitoring the situation in Bangladesh. Bangladesh is a friendly neighbour and a comprehensive strategic partner of China. They expressed hope that social stability will soon be restored in Bangladesh.
