Jaipur (Rajasthan) – Meat shops are mandated to indicate whether the meat is halal or jhatka in Jaipur. This directive comes from the Jaipur Municipal Corporation, as announced by Jaipur Mayor Dr Soumya Gurjar, and it will be enforced soon. To open a meat shop in the city, one must obtain a license from the Municipal Corporation. These shops will be permitted exclusively on commercial land.
Mayor Dr Gurjar added, ” This decision has been taken considering public sentiments. With 150 wards in Jaipur, numerous residents have expressed concerns to me. Complaints have also been received about garbage accumulation near meat shops, causing significant inconvenience to citizens. In response to this issue, our executive committee recently convened a meeting and unanimously decided that meat shops should be situated outside residential areas. Personally, as a vegetarian, I find the odour intolerable, and I understand that many other citizens may share the same concerns.”
Difference between halal and jhatka meatHalal meat is that wherein animals are slaughtered by cutting their jugular vein with their face directed towards ‘Makkah’ and they are left to shrivel to death. The animal blood flows in large quantities. On the contrary, in Hindu or Sikh religions, animals are killed by ‘ jhatka’ method, wherein, the neck of the animals is cut in a single cut, causing them little pain. |
