Gauri Lankesh Murder Case
Bengaluru (Karnataka) – On July 16th2024, the Karnataka High Court granted bail to Amit Degvekar, Suresh H L and KT Naveen Kumar, the suspects in Gauri Lankesh murder case. The bail was granted by Justice S Vishwajit Shetty of the Kalburgi Bench. The accused were represented in the High Court by a team of advocates, including Arun Shyam, Madhukar Deshpande, Basavaraj Sappannavar, Umashankar Megundi, Divya Balehittal, and Nishant
Kushalappa.
1. Another suspect in this case, Mohan Nayak, had already been granted bail by the Karnataka High Court. Citing this, the accused demanded similar bail consideration.
2. Mohan Nayak was granted bail in December 2023 due to delays in the Court proceedings. Nayak’s counsel argued that of the 527 witnesses listed in the charge sheet, only 90 had been examined.
3. The Public Prosecutor objected to the bail application of these three suspects. They noted that the Dharwad Bench of the Karnataka High Court had previously rejected their bail applications in the Kalburgi murder case. Public Prosecutor argued against the bail application of these suspects based on this precedent.
