China deploys massive army troops on the Indian border for an indefinite period

Information revealed from a US report

New York (US) — While the Russia-Ukraine war and the Israel-Hamas conflict are prominent topics of discussion, the increasing tension in the South China Sea and the steady strengthening of China’s People’s Liberation Army along the Indian border must not be overlooked. The US Intelligence Community has highlighted this in a report that includes an annual threat assessment. This report identifies the border tension between China and India as one of the several significant global conflicts, threats, and tensions. It notes that strained relations between the two countries will likely continue due to this border tension. Despite the major Galwan Valley clash in June 2020, there have been no further significant skirmishes on the border. However, the report indicates that China has deployed a substantial number of troops for an indefinite period.

In April 2024, the US Army War College’s Strategic Studies Institute published a detailed report on Chinese military movements along the mountainous border in Aksai Chin during 2020-21. The lead author, Dennis Blasko, a former US Defence official in Beijing and Hong Kong, stated that while China is negotiating with the Indian military and Government for a troop withdrawal from the Aksai Chin region, it intends to maintain its forces along the Line of Actual Control in Aksai Chin and the Doklam border for an indefinite period.

Editorial Perspectives

  • It is no surprise that China, rattled by the Indian soldiers’ strong response to the Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley along the India-China border in June 2020, is now deploying troops. However, it is crucial for India to continue enhancing its military preparedness and capabilities.
  • How does the US, situated across the seas, obtain information about India’s neighbouring adversary, but India could not ?
