New Delhi – India is set to rename over 30 regions in Tibet, using ancient Indian names. The Indian Army will soon release a map of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) along with a list of these renamed regions. This move is a response to China, which renamed 30 areas in Arunachal Pradesh in April. Previously, China renamed 15 regions in 2021 and 6 regions in 2017, asserting its claim over these areas.

New names rooted in Indian heritage
Research was conducted to select the new names for the regions in Tibet, drawing from old Indian names. The responsibility for renaming these locations falls under the Indian Army’s Information Warfare Division.
China has never recognised Arunachal Pradesh as an ‘Indian State,’ it calls Arunachal Pradesh as ‘South Tibet.’ China accuses India of annexing the Tibetan region and making it ‘Arunachal Pradesh.’
