Chinese Government’s mouthpiece ‘Global Times’ claims after Muizzu’s victory in the Maldives

Beijing (China) – China’s Government mouthpiece ‘Global Times’has published an article on the election victory of pro-China President Mohamed Muizzu’s party in the Maldives. It has criticised India. It states, ‘India follows the policy of ‘Neighbour First’ (giving priority to neighbouring countries); but in the recent times, India’s approach has changed from ‘Neighbour First’ to ‘India First’. As much India tries to increase its influence in South Asia, its neighbours move away from it. The parliamentary elections in Maldives are a proof of that. People there don’t want to follow India’s orders anymore. They have chosen an independent foreign policy. They are prioritising economic and social development.’

The article further writes that India’s aggressive attitude is creating anti-India sentiment in the neighbouring countries. India and China are not enemies but partners. The people of Maldives have also chosen Muizzu; because they think India is interfering in Maldives. Maldives wants to maintain good relations with both India and China. China respects the election of the Maldives as an internal matter; but some western media worked to bring these elections into limelight. This election is actually a fight between India and China. Apart from this, some media in India have also said in their reports that Maldives is increasingly inclining towards China.

Editorial Perspective

Neighbouring countries are not moving away from India, but China is turning them towards itself using every possible means. This would be prove to be suicidal for these countries in the future.
