Anti-national statement by Viriato Fernandes, South Goa Congress candidate
Panaji, Goa – South Goa Congress candidate Viriato Fernandes while speaking at a campaign meeting has stated that India imposed the Constitution on Gomantakiyas by force. He said that such a statement was also made in front of the then Congress President Rahul Gandhi. (Inspite of this, the Congress leaders gave Viriato Fernandes the Congress nomination, thus, it can be assumed that the national leaders of the Congress also have the same thinking. – Editor)
Speaking at this campaign rally, Fernandes further said that I had asked Congress president Rahul Gandhi for dual citizenship for Gomantika people. Viriato Fernandes, who made such a statement, was an Indian Navy officer. (How such a person would have served in the Indian Naval Service is worth pondering. – Editor)

Editorial Perspective
It would not be wrong to say that Congress hesitated to liberate Goa only because of such anti-national ideology when it came to power at the Centre after the Independence of India. The Gomantakiyas had noticed this Portuguese-style and anti-patriotic attitude of the Congress and that is why the Gomantakiyas had rejected the Congress in the general elections held after the liberation of Goa. |
