Parents must declare their religion to get baby’s birth certificate

Union Government modifies the birth certificate rules

New Delhi – According to the model rules issued by the Union Home Ministry; at the registration of the birth of a baby, both the parents of the baby will have to mention their religion separately. In the past, only family religion was recorded. The new rule will apply to the adopted child too. It will be mandatory to mention the religion of both the parents while adopting a child.

On 11 th August 2023, Parliament passed the Registration of Birth and Death (Amendment) Act. Accordingly, the information related to births and deaths would be saved at the National Level. This will help to update the National Population Register (NPR). Also, it will be used to make voters lists, Aadhar cards, ration cards, passports, vehicle licences, property registration and other important issues.
